Gerald
Baley, a former music teacher, helped his son develop his music skills at
13 when he became fascinated by the piano. Jerry, an accomplished
guitarist and singer, devoted his life to his family.
He
was born May 4, 1916, in Arnette, Oklahoma, to Joseph L. and Carrie May
Hovey Baley. As a child, he traveled with his parents in a covered
wagon to New Mexico. He graduated from high school and community
college in San Bernardino, California, and Pacific Christian College,
where he majored in Bible and music. He graduated
from the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City, with the Bachelor of Music
degree, and served to small churches while there.
He married Rosemary Brechbuhler December 22, 1950 in
Canton, Ohio. They made their first home in San Bernardino
California. where both served on the staff of Central Christian Church in
San Bernardino. They were asked to start a new church in Needles,
California. Until such a time as they could be released from their
duties in San Bernardino, they made the 500 mile round trip each weekend
to Needles, and after six months moved to Needles. They remained
serving the church until it could support a full time minister.
He retired as minister and music and Bible professor in Bible college in
1979, and he and his wife Rosemary began to travel full time in concert
with Tim. When his health began to fail, the family moved to Carson
City, Nevada in 1995. There he served as minister of music and an elder at the First Christian Church
until his death.
Jerry
lost his battle to cancer and his passing on December 29, 2002 leaves a
void in the lives of the many, many people he touched. Rosemary
wrote:
My
heart is so heavy and yet I am so thankful that my Jerry received his new
body, and has no more pain or suffering! I had prayed so hard that the
Lord would take him and he would be released from the pain and suffering
he has had for so long. I also prayed that it would be on a Sunday, and
daylight....He wanted to go to Church so badly, and his prayer was
answered in a far greater way when our Lord lifted him up and took him
home. I thought the darkness of the night does not seem to allow for the
transition and beauty of going HOME....Even so what the Lord willed was
what would be best. How I praise and thank him for the blessing of
allowing this.
Jerry,
you'll live on forever in our hearts. Please view our photos
